Avison Young appoints director of land and development

Jack Sellick will join the firm’s Newcastle office from his role as interim strategic development and information manager at Durham County Council.

Sellick is a chartered planning and development surveyor and RICS registered valuer with more than 10 years’ experience in the development land sector.

During his almost six years at Durham, he supported evidence-led decision-making on land, development and investment, contributing to wider corporate and placemaking objectives.

Prior to that, he worked at Greenslade Taylor Hunt as a development surveyor for six years.

Specialising in strategic land, development consultancy, valuation and agency, he has experience in the preparation of financial viability assessments, as well as the promotion and disposal of residential and mixed-use development land.

Sellick said: “Joining Avison Young feels like a natural next step for me. The North East has real momentum, with complex sites, ambitious public-sector objectives and a growing appetite for well-planned development.

“I’ve spent much of my career sitting at the intersection of planning, viability and delivery, and I’m excited to bring that perspective into a consultancy environment.

“The Newcastle team has a strong reputation already, and I’m looking forward to building on that with clients across the region.”

Barney Hillsdon, principal and managing director, place transactional at Avison Young, said: “Jack is someone who understands development from the inside out.

“His experience in local government, combined with hands-on development consultancy, means he knows how decisions are really made and how schemes are actually delivered.

“That insight is invaluable for our clients. He adds real depth to our land and development offer in Newcastle and strengthens our ability to advise on strategic sites, viability challenges and long-term growth opportunities.”

Gordon Hewling, regional managing director, Newcastle at Avison Young, added: “The North East is a key growth region for Avison Young, and Jack’s appointment is a clear signal of our ambition here.

“He brings a thoughtful, evidence-led approach but with a strong commercial edge – exactly what landowners, developers and public sector partners need in today’s market. We’re delighted to have him on board as we continue to invest in our regional platform.”
