Barratt Homes set for 300-home County Durham greenlight

Phase six of the Burton Woods, Spennymoor development will have up to 200 affordable homes, with plans set to go before the council on Wednesday.

The project team includes POD as architect and DPP on planning. Livin Homes will manage the affordable houses.

Located about 10km south of Durham, the town of Spennymoor grew up around Whitworth Colliery, which closed in 1974.

This 35-acre Whitworth Park site sits to the north west of the town and is currently used as agricultural land.

To the south of the site is phase five of the Burton Woods development, which has now been built.

The proposal has been recommended for approval at a Durham County Council planning committee on Wednesday, despite Spennymoor Town Council objecting to the extension of the existing housing estate.
