Blyth approves £19.5m regen funding

Northumberland County Council has given the nod to the investment as part of the government’s Plan for Neighbourhoods initiative.

The 10-year project outline will now be submitted to the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government and if approved, work is expected to begin in 2026.

The funding – £14.9m for capital projects and £4.6m for revenue – will target key areas including high street revitalisation, housing, skills and education, health, and transport.

Plans are broadly similar to the Long Term Plan for Towns put forward by the previous Conservative government, and will build on the the £95m Energising Blyth Programme.

Blyth is one of 75 towns selected for the Plan for Neighbourhoods funding, which will be released annually over 10 years, providing long-term certainty for the delivery of community-led projects.

The council will act as the accountable body for the programme, entering into a Memorandum of Understanding with MHCLG to manage the funds.

The early submission means Blyth is well-placed to receive approval ahead of other towns, allowing development to start promptly from spring 2026.
