Burtree Garden Village ready to progress

Hellens Group and Homes England’s Darlington development has had the sign-off on its Section 106 agreement, with work on the first phase now expected to commence in the next few weeks.

The first phase includes 750 homes, green infrastructure, and a 20-acre public park, as well as retail outlets and sustainable transport links.

Initial works will include preparatory groundworks and infrastructure installation, ready for construction of the first homes.

In total, over the next 20 years the scheme will deliver 2,000 homes and more than 2m sq ft of employment space, as well as infrastructure.

Homes England has committed £43m to fund the site’s infrastructure and Darlington Borough Council is also a key partner in the project, contributing land.

Gavin Cordwell-Smith, chief executive of Hellens Group, stated: “This development will provide much-needed housing, employment space, and infrastructure, contributing to the long-term prosperity of Darlington. We now look forward to starting work on-site in the coming weeks.”
