Caddick appointed on £25m Durham PBSA

Real estate firm Whitesmocks is bringing forward 232-bed Melbury Court, located off Old Dryburn Way to the north west of the city centre.

Caddick Construction will design and build the student accommodation, which will look to add much-needed stock to Durham’s university population.

Due to complete in summer 2027, in time for the start of the 2027/28 academic year, Caddick will implement an employment and skills plan as part of the project.

This will include local training and employment opportunities, as well as support or local educators and community causes.

The site is located in the Whitesmocks area of Durham, close to University Hospital of North Durham.

Steve Ford, regional managing director of Caddick Construction North East & Yorkshire, commented: “We’re proud to be expanding our presence in Durham with our appointment to deliver this new student accommodation development.

“The scheme at Melbury Court represents a significant investment in high-quality student accommodation and demonstrates continued confidence in the city’s thriving higher education sector.

“We look forward to working collaboratively with our partners to deliver a best-in-class scheme that will serve students for years to come.”
