Caddick lands contract for self-storage scheme in Newcastle
Appointed as principal contractor by the Big Yellow Construction Company, the firm will design and build the four-storey facility on Scotswood Road, creating 60,000 sq ft of net internal self-storage space.
The development will include customer loading bays, office, reception and staff welfare facilities, alongside external works, landscaping, and a new car park. The scheme will also feature roof-mounted solar photovoltaic panels and battery storage as part of its sustainability strategy.
The project is scheduled for completion in summer 2027 and is being delivered to achieve a BREEAM ‘Very Good’ rating.
The facility will become Big Yellow Self Storage’s second site in Newcastle, complementing its existing store on Industry Road.
The contract continues Caddick Construction’s expansion in the North East following the opening of its Durham office in 2025. The contractor says it has secured projects worth £127m across the region during its first year of operation.
It also strengthens Caddick’s industrial and logistics portfolio, which includes the delivery of Richardson Barberry’s new DPD parcel hub in Newton Aycliffe.
