Cameron Hall and Jomast get high-court go-ahead
Plans for 135 homes in Wynyard can now commence, having been refused by Stockton-on-Tees Council in May 2024.
Stockton refused the application on the grounds that if that scheme and others lodged in the village were approved, it would increase the number of planned new homes by 50% – from 500 to 767.
An appeal was also dismissed by a planning inspector in May last year, not on grounds of overdevelopment but on the basis it would harm the nearby grade two-listed Wynyyard Park.
Wynyard Village has been built up over the last 20 years, following the development of the listed Wynyard Hall, acquired by Sir John Hall, Cameron Hall’s founder, in 1987 and since transformed into a hotel, spa and conference centre.
Cameron Hall also noted its inclusion of eight commercial units in the scheme, designed to provide a medical centre, a restaurant, a vets, and other retail uses.
The inspector noted that given the council’s shortfall in a five-year housing supply, the low-density nature of the housing, and the access residents would have to services and facilities, she was allowing the development.
Mark Antonopoulos, managing director at Cameron Hall Homes, said: “We’re pleased to have been granted planning permission for a further phase of homes in Wynyard.
“As a family-led business, continuing to deliver high-quality homes for the North East is central to our values, and we look forward to building on the success of Stoney Wood.”
