Darlington set to approve 230-home Esh scheme
A joint venture between the authority and the housebuilder is potentially set to deliver the scheme on a 30-acre site on the northwestern edge of the town, as part of the wider Burtree Garden Village.
Located between Faverdale Rotary Way and Burtree Lane, plans submitted by Homes by Esh include the homes, associated infrastructure, parking, and landscaping.
The site would be accessed from a new link road between Rotary Way and Burtree Lane, which is currently under construction as part of the first phase of Burtree Garden Village.
Homes by Esh has already secured reserved matters approval for three other residential sites within Phase One, to the west of the application site, including 130 homes that gained approval back in May.
The council owns the land and is preparing a separate report for Cabinet recommending that it enters into a joint venture partnership with Homes by Esh to develop the site.
The planning application is therefore being determined by the Planning Applications Committee rather than officers, because of the council’s ownership of the site and the proposed JV.
The wider Burtree Garden Village scheme will over the next 20 years deliver 2,000 houses, around 2m sq ft of employment space, a community centre, a pub, and health facilities at the Hellens Group and Homes England-led project.
Darlington Council will meet on 23 September.
