Durham to debate Coundon housing

Partner Construction’s 156-home development on Westerton Road will be considered at next week’s planning meeting.

The project team includes planning consultant Lichfields and architect Ergo Projects.

FPCR Environment and Design led on the landscaping design, which concluded that the housing should stay on the lower slopes of the land.

Originally, the scheme was for 184 units.

Located within Bishop Aukland, the site is situated to the northern edge of Coundon Village.

A network of fields separates the site from Westerton Village to the north and the A688 to the west.

Consisting of 25 acres of agricultural land, the site borders other residential developments and Westerton Road highway to the east.

The proposed housing mix has been split into 16 apartments, split between one- and two-bedrooms, six two-bed bungalows, six three-bed bungalows, 67 two-bed houses, 83 three-bed houses, and six four-bed houses.

The application is recommended for approval, subject to conditions such as 15% affordable housing provision.
