Esh plots next steps for Burtree Garden Village
The construction firm has submitted plans for 227 houses at Hellens Group’s 2,000-home development, immediately to the north of Faverdale Industrial Estate.
Designed by Gateshead-based Nicholson Nairn Architects and supported by Hedley Planning, the site was previously allocated for employment use but was reassigned to residential by the council in 2022.
The estate will comprise two-, three-, and four-bed homes and is an extension to phase one of the wider development, around three miles north of Darlington.
Hellens Group broke ground on phase one of the new neighbourhood in April.
The garden village will eventually have 2,000 homes and 2m sq ft of employment space, a school, pub, and health facilities.
Hellens is working in partnership with Homes England on the site, with the government agency providing £43m towards the project. Darlington Council is also a key partner.
This development will be on agricultural land and an affordable homes provision of 20%, or 45 properties, has been suggested by Esh.
