Freight Island launches at Eldon Square
The 60,000 sq ft venue in Newcastle is now open to the public, with the Tivoli-inspired dining and entertainment destination taking a 15-year lease at the former Debenhams unit and a roof-top space.
The rooftop venue has 12 independent food options, three bars, and live music in a day-to-night setting, and will host a month-long World Cup Social from 17 June to the 19 July.
Matches will be shown across 10 HD screens throughout the site, including beneath the retractable roof of The Plant Room, alongside live music and appearances from Newcastle footballing legends.
Freight Island announced it would be coming to Eldon Square in February last year, and was originally supposed to open the following autumn.
The deal was brokered directly between Freight Island and Pradera Lateral, Eldon Square’s asset management team.
The project comes amid the backdrop of the ongoing Pilgrim Street redevelopment and Newcastle City Council’s £50m city centre transformation plan.
