Green light for Middleton St George scheme

Plans for 96 houses from Bellway and 230 from Avant Homes have been approved by Darlington Council.

Bellway’s proposals for Killinghall Grange will comprise a collection of three, four and five-bedroom houses for private sale on a 10-acre site south of Yarm Road.

Emphasis will be placed on the landscaping, which will retain existing trees and hedgerows as well as a new planting programme and wooden nest boxes.

The development forms the eastern part of the larger development, where Avant Homes will develop its £51m Winfield Park site on 16 acres.

The houses will range from two- to five-bedrooms, with 50 being designated as affordable.

Road improvements will be carried out as part of the wider scheme, including a new roundabout at the junction of Yarm Road and Middleton Back Lane.

Mark Gabriele, head of land for Bellway Durham, said: “We welcome this decision by councillors, which will enable us to start work on building a collection of high-quality new-build homes in Middleton St George and help address the demand for housing in the local area.

“The development will also support the continued growth of Bellway’s Durham division as we strive to increase the number of much-needed new homes we are delivering across the region.”
