Hall Construction Services lands Burtree infra work
A £16.8m contract has been secured by the firm, which will be main contractor for infrastructure works enabling Hellens Group’s garden village development near Darlington.
The contract will see Hall Construction deliver a wide-ranging package of enabling infrastructure for the first phase of the project, including a new roundabout on Burtree Lane, reconfiguration of Rotary Way, approximately 2.4km of new highway, internal roads and access, utilities, drainage systems, and the delivery of a central 20-acre landscape park known as Burtree Park.
Burtree Garden Village is being delivered by Hellens in partnership with Homes England and Darlington Council. Once complete, the scheme will feature 2,000 homes, up to 2m sq ft of employment space, community facilities, and green infrastructure.
The Section 106 agreement attached to the project was signed off in February this year.
Regional civil engineering firm Hall Construction brings deep experience and local knowledge to the project. Founded in 1986 by brothers Stephen and Neville Hall, the family-run business has grown into a national operator.
Likewise, Hellens was founded in the area in 1973 and formerly competed in the civils space with Hall before Hellens pivoted to work as a land and property development company. The project now brings together the second generation of both families.
Gavin Cordwell-Smith, chief executive of Hellens Group, said: “We’re very pleased to appoint Hall Construction as the main contractor for this significant first phase of infrastructure works at Burtree Garden Village.
“As a respected regional business with deep roots in the North East, their expertise and track record align perfectly with our ambitions for the site. This project has special meaning as it brings together two second-generation family businesses who have long shared a commitment to delivering quality and value in the region.”
James Hall, director at Hall Construction, said: “We are honoured to be chosen, particularly as a local contractor, and pleased to commence construction on Burtree Garden Village.
“This marks the beginning of an exciting journey to create a thoughtfully designed community that respects and enhances the natural landscape.
“We are in great support of Hellens’s vision to deliver a place where people can live, work and thrive in harmony with the surrounding environment. We are proud to play a role in shaping a sustainable and vibrant future for this part of Darlington and our local area.”
