Hotel Gotham opens its doors
Newcastle’s first ever five-star establishment is open, with the former fire station on Pilgrim Street transformed into a 57-bedroom hotel.
The Ryder-designed hotel was brought forward by Taras, which is developing the wider Pilgrim Street development, with Avison Young advising.
Hotel Gotham’s parent company Bespoke Group was lined up early on as the operator for the venue following planning approval in February last year, and Squid.inc has led on the interior design.
The opening of the hotel concludes phase one of the scheme, which will see the venue expanding to 90 bedrooms by working in the adjacent former police station and magistrates court building during phase two.
As well as the hotel itself, restaurant Siren is also open as is Fire, a bar set within the original engine room.
A two-floor members-only club, Club Brass, sits behind a velvet curtain.
Chris Thompson, general manager at Hotel Gotham Newcastle, said: “There’s a real sense of anticipation in the city and Hotel Gotham is arriving at just the right moment.
“We’ve created something that feels connected to Newcastle, but with its own sense of character.
“Whether you’re here for dinner, drinks or a stay, the atmosphere carries you through and there’s always something new to discover.
“This part of Newcastle is changing quickly and we’re proud to be part of that. We’ve taken a building with real history and given it a new lease of life one that looks ahead, without forgetting where it came from.”
