Irwin Mitchell deal strengthens legal cluster at Wellbar Central

Moving to larger offices within the Newcastle office complex, the law firm has signed for a full floorplate of 10,600 sq ft.

Irwin Mitchell, which this year marks 21 years in the North East, will move its 100-strong team from the eighth floor to the recently refurbished fifth.

Just last month, Eversheds Sutherland announced that it will move to Wellbar Central, a 10-storey building on Gallowgate, taking 4,500 sq ft.

Motcomb Estates vehicle Wellbar Properties took the building on last year, initiating a £1m upgrade programme across the site.

Irwin Mitchell’s move follows the acquisition of Silk Family Law earlier this year. The firm also announced several new appointments and internal promotions.

Lucy Nicol, regional managing partner in Irwin Mitchell’s Newcastle office, said: “The North East continues to be one of our core areas of focus and our new,  larger office space, coupled with the acquisition of Silk Family Law demonstrates this remains the case.

“This expansion gives us the tools to drive further growth and support our clients across the North of England with a broader range of services. We have brought in new talent and made several promotions aimed at developing our expertise further.

“We’re now well-placed to deliver on our wider strategy for growth and are looking forward to the next 20 years of working hand in hand with colleagues, clients and the communities across the Northeast over the long term.”

The programme of works recently initiated at Wellbar Central to elevate the building’s environmental credentials includes the installation of new heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems.
