Modobloc set for Grieveson’s Yard approval
The developer’s plans are for the demolition of buildings and construction of four mixed-use blocks comprising 84 apartments in the Byker ward of Newcastle.
As well as apartments, three ground floor commercial units are planned for the development, which is located directly to the west and south of Foundry Lane.
Each block will have five storeys, in designs by Miller Partnerships Architects, with residential units made up of 11 one-bed, 33 two-bed, and 40 three-bed apartments.
Plans also include 32 car parking spaces and 112 cycle spaces, both to be housed under blocks B and D, and landscaping will include an area of green space in the middle of the development.
The plans are recommended for approval at Newcastle City Council’s upcoming meeting on Friday.
Modobloc x Blue Rock Homes has named the development Grieveson’s Yard, and used Lichfields as the planner on the scheme.
The former industrial site has been used as a commercial yard for a number of years by a variety of car repair workshops.
A key aim for the project design team has been to produce a high quality architectural design with a strong emphasis on sustainability that contributes towards Newcastle City Council’s policy ‘to create a thriving and sustainable urban village’ within the Ouseburn Valley.
