Robertson begins latest Redcar scheme
The contractor’s North East division has started work on the town’s family-led culture and entertainment venue and library.
Working for Redcar & Cleveland Council, the regeneration project led by Robertson as main contractor forms the flagship part of the wider £25m Redcar Town Deal, aiming to revitalise the town centre and drive long-term economic growth.
The building will include a reimagined central library, indoor family leisure attractions, and improved connections between the town centre and seafront, creating a vibrant, year-round destination for both residents and visitors.
Complementing a digitally-enabled library and learning spaces will be a new outdoor events space, offering a flexible platform for community use.
Completion in late 2026 is the aim. Works kicked off after the demolition of the former M&S and Goodwins buildings and surveys and design work with adjoining property owners were concluded.

Robertson Construction North East is also currently leading the comprehensive redevelopment of the grade two-listed Redcar Central station into a multifunctional hub that integrates transport, leisure, and retail facilities.
Neil Kennedy, regional managing director, said: “This vibrant development represents a significant regeneration opportunity for boosting the local economy, creating jobs and providing a welcoming space for the community.
“Drawing on our extensive experience in delivering high-quality transformational projects, our team will ensure that the vision for this development is reflected throughout the construction process.”
Chair of the Redcar Town Deal Catherine Clennett said: “We are very excited to see works recommence and are looking forward to seeing the site take shape.
“The aim is to provide an indoor family entertainment venue and an outdoor event space leading people from the beachfront and esplanade through to the high street to help regeneration of the town centre. This represents a great investment in the town to enhance both resident and visitor experience.”
