The stalled Sage project is set to receive £24m of investment from the North East Combined Authority to get work started on the proposed 12,500-15,000 capacity scheme. 

The Manchester property group has acquired the mixed-use Durham development, declaring its intention to bring the scheme to completion.

Mayors across the North of England are pushing for a 2036 or 2040 Games bid from the UK government, pitching the region as the host location in an effort to boost regeneration.
