Work starts at Bellway’s Cramlington site
The housebuilder was granted permission for the phase of 160 homes off Fisher Lane in February, bringing the number of properties it will have built in the town to 546.
The development, which will be known as Hartford Edge, forms part of a wider 1,600-home neighbourhood to the south west of the town, where Bellway is also currently building 160 homes at Foxton Mill, and previously completed 226 homes at Arcot Manor.
Hartford Edge will comprise 136 two- to five-bedroom homes for private sale, as well as 24 two- and three-bedroom affordable homes.
Fifty homes will be more accessible and adaptable for those with mobility issues.
Sustainability measures include footpaths, green edges, and a central village green, as well as trees and native plants to promote biodiversity.
Emma Chesterton, sales director for Bellway North East, said: “We have a long-standing commitment to delivering new homes for people in Cramlington and supporting the town’s growth as a key employment area for the region.
“The creation of jobs requires the provision of new quality housing, and this planning permission ensures that we can continue to build much-needed homes in the town.
“The mix of homes at Hartford Edge has been carefully planned to meet a range of requirements, in particular houses for first-time buyers and families wanting to bring up their children in the Cramlington area.
“In addition, more than 30% of homes are also more accessible and adaptable to suit the needs of people throughout their lifetimes, to reflect the growing ageing population both in Cramlington and further afield.”
