NETA training facility reaches steel signing phase
The £15m facility is being constructed by main contractor Britcon next to Stockton Riverside College in Thornaby, and will provide the North East Training Alliance with a specialist engineering academy within the campus.
The scheme will remodel an existing building and join it to a new two-storey development. Measuring 50,000 sq ft, the facility will link to the main college and has been designed by GSSArchitecture, with the wider project team including Quetra Consulting, Billinghurst George & Partners, JH Partners, Hall & Partners, and landscape architect ONE Environments.
The £14.7m needed for its construction has been provided via investment from the Government’s Town Deal fund, delivered in partnership with Stockton-on-Tees Council and with the support of the Thornaby Town Deal Board.
The wider 120,000 sq ft site will also include the creation of a motor workshop yard and associated infrastructure, as well as its own access point from Princeton Drive.
The project gained approval from Stockton-on-Tees Council in October 2024.
NETA is part of The Education Training Collective, a leading group of colleges and training providers offering education and training opportunities in Teesside and across the UK, covering a diverse range of engineering and construction skills.
Anna McTaggart, partner at GSSArchitecture commented: “We are proud to be part of the team delivering this state-of-the-art technical training facility and look forward to seeing it take shape on site.
“We are excited to provide NETA with a building that will support the fantastic work they do providing students with high-quality training and supporting local industry.”
