Design North appointed on padel project
The Newcastle-based interior design firm has been commissioned to convert a 53,000 sq ft shed at Silverlinks in North Tyneside into a venue for Project Padel.
The site is expected to be the largest indoor facility of its type in the region when it opens in the summer, offering eight double courts, three single courts, two pickleball courts, a gym, a spa, a reformer studio, a bar, and social workplace facilities.
Project Padel was founded in the North East and was the first padel operator to bring the sport to Newcastle with its Benton site in March 2024.
As of the end of 2024, figures estimate that more than 400,000 people in Great Britain had played padel at least once in the preceding 12 months.
Director Scott Stewart said Design North is delighted to play a role in supporting Project Padel’s success and added: “We have extensive experience in leisure and hospitality projects.
“Our knowledge and expertise will provide contemporary and state-of-the-art facilities at Silverlink, allowing padel to play centre stage, while natural materials and hints of industrial modernity create a luxurious but subtle backdrop.”
Aaron Shepherdson, director at Project Padel added: “Design North has really understood our requirements, making them the perfect partners for this project.
“The new club will offer a fantastic leisure and sporting experience, similar to our other locations, featuring social tournaments and events, coaching, and a community-focused atmosphere.”
