Esh lines up Jarrow go-ahead
Proposals for 50 affordable homes, to be run by Karbon Homes, will go before South Tyneside Council’s planning committee recommended for approval.
Lichfields is advising on planning for the Inverness Road/Perth Avenue project, which is intended for a four-acre site currently occupied by grassland, a multi-use games area, hardstanding and two vacant buildings, formerly part of the Perth Green House sheltered housing complex and a youth centre.
The professional team also includes i-Transport, Dendra, Ergo Environmental and landscape architect PDP.
Some remediation is required along with the remaining demolition work. Esh would build the housing, handing over to registered provider Karbon.
The site is surrounded by housing. All buildings would be two-storey, with the scheme breaking down as; 12 two-bedroom flats, 14 two-bedroom houses, 20 three-bedroom houses and four four-bedroom houses.
Each dwelling would have off-street parking, with 22 visitor spots also planned. All homes are intended to be made available through affordable rent.
The site is council-owned, and a transfer is yet to be agreed between Esh and the local authority, meaning that a Section 106 agreement cannot be entered into yet. However, of the suggested contributions for when things fall into place include a contribution of close to £40,000 to offsite biodiversity.
Planning officers gave a ’minded to approve’ verdict for when the plans go to committee, on 27 August. The plans can be viewed on the South Tyneside portal with the reference ST/0876/23/FUL.
