Go-ahead for Mount Oswald PBSA
Durham approved the 89-bed mixed-use development, which will have a 4,500 sq ft Asda Express store on the ground floor.
Work is expected to start on site in 2026 and will form the final part of the Mount Oswald project, which began in 2013 and consists of 291 homes, offices, and retail space.
Banks Group noted the large student population and said the housing will reduce demand for HMO properties, which was highlighted as a reason for its approval.
The grassland site is next to existing student lodgings and opposite two of Durham University’s campuses, South College and John Snow College, which combined have around 1,000 students living there during term time.
