Hellens Residential appoints director
Joe Docherty will join the board of the North East-based affordable housing provider as a non-executive member, following the retirement of Gary Lumby.
Docherty started his career on a graduate scheme at Barclays Bank, which focused on its national regeneration and real estate teams.
Almost eight years later, he left to join Tees Valley Regeneration as chief executive, where he spent seven years establishing and leading a £500m live development programme of inward investment and strategic transport functions.
This was followed by a four year spell as deputy chief executive of Home Group, one of the UK’s largest housing associations, and then five years as chief executive at national education and skills group NCG.
During his career, he has also served as trustee of Durham University and the Arts Council England.
He currently serves as trustee of Esmée Fairbairn Foundation, chairman of Durham University, non-executive director of Bede Homes, and chair of the Northern Powergrid Foundation.
Kate Hellens, managing director of Hellens Residential, said “We are delighted to welcome Joe to the board. His extensive background in housing and makes him a valuable addition to our team at a time of exciting growth.
“As we look to grow our portfolio and expand our development pipeline, his insight and leadership will play a key role in helping us achieve our ambitions while staying true to our mission of delivering high-quality, affordable homes across the North.”
Joe Docherty said: “The organisation has a clear vision for growth and a strong commitment to community impact. I look forward to working with Kate, Gavin and the team to support the delivery of more affordable homes and thriving neighbourhoods across the North of England.”
