Metrocentre grabs a slice of Mango
Operator Sovereign Centros from CBRE will welcome the international fashion retailer later this year, with a 6,200 sq ft Red Mall store, the brand’s largest in the region.
Mango’s Mediterranean-inspired womenswear and menswear store sits adjacent to Jo Malone, close to other fashion stores such as Zara, H&M, and anchor brand Flannels.
Ben Cox, director at Sovereign Centros from CBRE, said: “Introducing Mango to Metrocentre brings an added dimension to an already compelling fashion offer.
“Mango will be a highly complementary addition to our Red Mall line up, which has seen significant investment and an abundance of new commitments over the last twelve months.
“We prove time and time again that we really are the go-to destination for retail, and we look forward to seeing Mango thrive here at Metrocentre.”
Footasylum has now opened into a new upsized space within the centre, taking on a 12,375 sq ft unit in Red Mall and increasing its presence by 25%.
The Gateshead destination has seen a flurry of new investment and the re-anchoring of Red Mall with the relocations and upsizes of powerhouse brands Sports Direct, Flannels, and Zara, creating more than 170,000 sq ft of new retail space as the centre is repositioned.
Part of this saw the announcement last summer that the former House of Fraser department store would be converted into a 40,000 sq ft community diagnostics centre, in line with NHS policy to bring services to people outside of hospital environments.
In the F&B market, the rapidly growing German Doner Kebab said last week that it will open its 143rd franchised UK location at the Metrocentre, taking a 2,823 sq ft unit opposite the newly expanded Primark in the Yellow Mall.
