The development consultancy has hired Chris Beck as its Teesside growth and industrial decarbonisation director, as the firm hones in on the hydrogen production sector.
Beck, who was group director for clean growth and innovation at the Tees Valley Combined Authority until March, joins Arup at a time when it is rolling out significant opportunities as the UK transitions to a cleaner energy future, the firm said.
His principal focus will be to grow Arup’s presence within the region and take the firm’s existing service offerings into the regional market. He will be based in the group’s Stockton-on-Tees office.
Beck said: “I am excited by Arup’s ambitious business growth plan and look forward to continuing to work on Tees Valley and Humber clusters and seeing the firm’s thinking formulise into actual projects.
“My new role represents a great opportunity to progress further growth in Arup’s existing business in the Teesside region, as well as building a recognised centre of excellence for clean growth while supporting the development of our people in the North.”
In his time at Tees Valley, Beck oversaw support for major inward investment projects in offshore wind, chemicals, bio manufacturing and the new Treasury economic hub in Darlington and help secure the region as one of the trial Innovate UK’s innovation launchpads.
He had previously spent two stints at engineering group TWI where he helped growth the regional office in the Tees Valley.
