Caddick keeps £25m Durham Uni student block on course
Locally based Caddick Construction has reached the highest point in the build programme at Whitesmocks’ Melbury Court scheme as the 232-bed purpose-built student accommodation project stays on track for a summer 2027 completion.
Representatives from Caddick, Whitesmocks and the supply chain came together to mark the occasion and see the progress being made on the £25m development, which will welcome students for the 2027/28 academic year.
Caddick was appointed to the design and build contract at the start of this year, with the scheme designed to support the growing demand for student accommodation in the city.
Steve Ford, regional managing director at Caddick Construction North East & Yorkshire, commented: “We’re proud to have achieved the first major milestone on Melbury Court. It is fantastic to see the building take shape and to celebrate this occasion with our partners and wider team, all of whom are playing a key role in the delivery of this project.
“Reaching the highest point of this scheme represents significant progress for the city’s purpose-built student accommodation offering and our site team is working closely with our supply chain to ensure the development is built to the highest quality, in order to provide excellent accommodation for students in Durham.”
In its latest financial results, Caddick Construction Group reported a turnover of £375m, a pre-tax profit of £4.5m and a forward order book of over £1.4bn.
Caddick Construction Group is headquartered in Wakefield, with regional offices in Warrington, Kendal, Durham and Birmingham.
