Fenham Properties plots Pendower Hall makeover
Plans for the transformation of the grade two-listed Newcastle property into high-end homes have been lodged.
Fenham intends to turn the hall into four seven-bedroomed properties, and build a separate new-build home within the five-acre plot.
The hall is set over four floors and the’ development plans will see new homes all feature independent entrances, kitchens, dining facilities, reception rooms, ensuites and bathrooms.
Hedley Planning, advising on the project, said that the incorporation of heritage designs will add to the appeal with the retention of existing materials and colour schemes as part of a modern architecture approach, with the use of stone elements, modern full-height glazing and lightweight metal building materials all providing detail.
Also planned is a private leisure and wellness facility, which will include a gym, steam room, sauna, swimming pool, changing facilities and power plant together with new vehicle parking spaces.
Pendower Hall was built for Quaker banker JW Pearce in 1867 and had been used by the council as a school and then as an education training centre before it lay empty for more than a decade.
Plans are now ledged with Newcastle City Council.
Associate director at Hedley Planning Alex Franklin, who is overseeing the submission, said redevelopment will see the restoration of a heritage asset for Newcastle.
He added: “We very much look forward to redevelopment; bringing back to life an important site that will deliver social and economic benefits to the community through imaginative regeneration and fresh investment.
“As planners, we always want to see urban regeneration of brownfield sites and the re-purposing of existing buildings to deliver a strong legacy. This one undoubtedly heralds major changes to this important part of the city.”
