First houses for sale in Sunderland city centre project

Vistry North East was granted permission to build 265 homes on the site of the former Sunderland Civic Centre in 2022.

The demolition of the 1960s buildings was completed in February this year, and construction of West Park Quarter was able to commence.

The first lot of three and four bedroom homes are now for sale via the company’s Linden Homes brand.

Part of the ongoing work will see Vistry recreate St George’s Square, which was damaged by bombs during the Second World War. This will include the grade two-listed Saint George’s House remaining as a focal point.

Sean Egan, managing director at Vistry North East, said: “West Park Quarter is delivering homes for sale, private rent, and affordable rent and our mixed tenure approach has enabled us to deliver the new homes at pace.

“The properties will be set around public, open green spaces and will offer excellent links to both the high street and to local transport infrastructure.”

Cllr Kevin Johnston, cabinet member for housing, regeneration, and business, said: “We’re delighted to have facilitated such rapid progress on this site and look forward to seeing people move into high-quality, city centre homes.”
