Former Lloyds Bank to become restaurant
Naylors Gavin Black has been appointed to help transform the iconic 31,000 sq ft Grey Street building in Newcastle into a mixed-use destination, with dining in the basement, ground, and mezzanine levels.
Internal demolition works are now underway and further announcements, including confirmation of an anchor restaurant tenant, are expected in the coming months.
The future use for the upper floors is still being decided.
The four-storey, grade two-listed sandstone building dates back to 1839 and was originally occupied by Northumberland & District Bank.
It remained in continuous use as a bank until Lloyds vacated the premises last year to move to Monument Mall.
Prominent features include a 91-foot frontage, a double-height banking hall, the mezzanine, and a full-height atrium.
NGB will provide project management and contract administration services for the refurbishment.
The instruction was secured by Naylors partner Scott Clarke, who will be project lead, supported by building surveyor, Luke Overton.
