Green light for Sacriston homes

Durham County Council has approved Persimmon’s plans for 104 homes on 14 acres to the north of the former mining village.

The site is an extension of the housebuilder’s wider Monkswood development, which has already seen phases one and two built out.

Currently, the land is used for arable farming, with plans now including housing, green space, and a children’s play area.

Supported by Lichfields, the housing mix will include 11 bungalows, two- to four-bed houses, and 15% affordable homes.

Olly Thompson, land director at Persimmon Durham, said: “We’re delighted to have these plans for new homes in Sacriston approved.

“This development will provide high-quality homes for first-time buyers, families and local residents alike.

“We look forward to engaging with residents and the Council to bring these exciting plans to fruition.
