Persimmon success in Hartlepool

The housebuilder’s plans for 70 homes on a 10-acre disused reservoir east of Hart Lane has been given the seal of approval on its second time going through committee.

The homes will be a mix of four- and five-bed properties from the company’s premium Charles Church brand, and all will have EV chargers and solar panels installed.

Originally considered back in March, the scheme has now passed after making changes to the siting of some of the plots, with 16 adjusted to create more space between them, and landscaping improvements including a hedge added along the southern boundary, the incorporation of a kissing gate at the southern access point, and fencing and landscaping amended throughout.

More than £2m will be spent on ground improvements including filling in and levelling the disused reservoirs and as part of the S106, Persimmon will contribute more than £140,000 towards local primary and secondary education.

New pedestrian and cycle links will be provided on the development, alongside a new play area.

Some original reservoir features are also set to be preserved, such as a central spillway and a tower.

Richard Holland, land and planning director at Persimmon Teesside, said: “We’re pleased that Hartlepool Council has approved these plans for 70 high quality new homes.

“We look forward to starting construction on the site that, with its extensive transport links and excellent local amenities, we’re sure will prove extremally popular with local homebuyers.”
