Wates starts on £200m Gresham scheme
The Crown Square project will see more than 1,500 homes and a new city gateway, with phase one consisting of 240 BTR flats, a 450-bed PBSA, and a Fairfield by Marriott hotel.
The scheme was given the green light back in April, following a nil-value land transfer from Middlesbrough Council to its development arm, Middlesbrough Development Corporation.
Hoardings are now up around the Crown Square site, and scaffolding has been erected at the Crown building, located on Borough Road, so prep work for the scheme can now commence.
Developers iMpeC and Buccleuch Property are jointly managing the project, alongside Middlesbrough Development Corporation, with designs by Corstrphine & Wright.
Wates was announced as lead contractor for phase one at the end of last year.
As well as the flats, student accommodation, and the hotel, a new pedestrian link will be created between Diamond Road, Linthorpe Road, and King Edward’s Square.
Middlesbrough Development Corporation chair Tony Parkinson said: “This site is primed for regeneration and local people will now be pleased to see activity taking place.”
