Green light recommended for Gateshead housing
Plans for 125 new homes are set to be approved, with councillors recommended to back the scheme at Harebell Road in Beacon Lough.
Submitted by the Gateshead Regeneration Partnership – a joint venture between Gateshead Council, Vistry Group, and Home Group – the proposals would deliver a mix of one- to four-bedroom properties across a 4.23ha site.
Designed by Queensberry Design, the development includes 14 one-bedroom maisonettes, 40 two-bedroom houses, 67 three-bedroom homes and four four-bedroom houses, alongside public open space, a children’s play area and sustainable drainage features.
The site, formerly occupied by housing until the early 2000s, has since been used as informal green space. It is allocated for residential development in the local plan, with capacity for up to 174 homes.
Amended plans submitted in March and April made changes to layout, parking and internal road arrangements following officer feedback, while retaining the overall scale of development.
The scheme also includes new pedestrian links connecting into existing walking and cycling routes, as well as landscaping and tree planting throughout the site.
