Kirklevington Hall set for five-star makeover
Plans are in for the renovation of the Stockton-on-Tees manor house into a boutique hotel and spa, in a project spearheaded by developer and Teesside native Chris Musgrave and hotel operater Kymel.
GSSArchitecture has led on the design for the project, while Lichfields has managed the planning side of the restoration and extension of the 140-year-old estate.
The house has been vacant since it stopped operating as Judges Country House Hotel, which closed its doors in March 2023.
Proposals for the scheme include the refurbishment of the hotel, a 17,000 sq ft restaurant expansion, a 23,000 sq ft spa over two floors, a 1,000 sq ft events pavilion, as well as garden lodges.
The hotel will have 18 internal suites, along with eight walled garden lodges and 20 woodland lodges, which will sit in the west part of the grounds.
The spa building will house a relaxation area, treatment rooms, a swimming pool, steam rooms, saunas, exercise studio and a
restaurant and will be located to the east of the site.
Daniel Jones, associate and project architect at GSSArchitecture, said: “We are delighted to be part of this prestigious project, working to sensitively restore and enhance this historic estate.
“Our design approach ensures that the new additions complement the character of the original country house hotel while delivering a modern, high-end experience for guests.
“This project is a fantastic opportunity to create a landmark five-star destination for the region which focuses on wellness and
connection with nature.”
Paul Makings, chairman at Kymel, expressed, “We are excited to be chosen to head up the design, build, and operation of this exciting project.
“Chris Musgrave had the vision to bring the site back to life after purchasing it three years ago for £3m.
“Although it is in a poor state of repair now, his exciting plans will see many millions more invested into the redevelopment of this site.”
