Lidl eyes up Ponteland store

The grocery chain has set its sights on a 14,500 sq ft addition to the Northumberland town, on former Lane Nurseries land.

Located on Callerton Lane, the store is still in the early planning stages and a contractor has not yet been appointed.

Currently, the closest Lidl store for Ponteland residents is in Newcastle.

As well as the classic instore bakery and the iconic Middle of Lidl, the store will be partially powered by solar panels and car and bike parking will be provided.

A public consultation will be held from 5-7.30pm on 2 September, at Ponteland Leisure Centre.

David Murphy, regional head of property at Lidl GB, said: “We’re excited to officially start our journey in bringing a new Lidl store to Ponteland.

“Our plans for a state-of-the-art, modern store would deliver a significant boost to the local economy, enhance local shopping options, and provide much needed access to Lidl’s high quality, affordable products.”
