Newcastle to consider 350-home Scotswood scheme

New Tyne West Development’s plans for Phase 3 of the area are recommended for approval on Friday, in the latest stage of the 20-year old regeneration masterplan.

Designed by ID Partnership, the 45-acre site is located to the south of Armstrong Road and north of Scotswood Road, approximately 3.5km west of Newcastle city centre.

The wider team includes Hydrock, OS Ecology, and Apex Acoustics.

A masterplan for the wider Scotswood area was adopted and outline consent for 1,800 homes was approved in 2007.

Since then, Phase 1, and Wayside have been completed, while Phase 2 is almost finished and Phases 5, and 5A are under construction.

Due to the time taken to deliver the other phases, with construction moving east to west instead of numerically, the outline consent has expired and so now, a new application has been lodged with the council.

Plans also include a café, highway infrastructure, and landscaping.

The site slopes steeply and will need to be recontoured, and a key element of the proposals is a central linear route, which provides the main north-south pedestrian route through the site.
