Next phase for Burtree Garden Village approved

Homes by Esh will build 130 homes at Darlington site, which over the next 20 years will deliver 2,000 houses, around 2m sq ft of employment space, a community centre, a pub, and health facilities at the Hellens Group and Homes England-led project.

Located in the Faverdale area of the town, the Garden Village has been created around a framework that focuses on a landscape-first approach including public spaces and pedestrian routes that connect into the wider village network.

Designed by Gateshead-based Nicholson Nairn Architects and supported by Hedley Planning, plans include mainly three- and four-bedroom homes across 13 house types.

Homes by Esh has two live developments in Darlington, with 144 energy efficient homes under construction at Hurworth Meadows, and 155 new homes being delivered at Elder Brook Park along Neasham Road.

Hellens Group broke ground on phase one of the new neighbourhood in April last year.

Dale Morris, technical director at Homes by Esh, said: “Building on the success of West Park Garden Village in Darlington, securing planning approval at Burtree Garden Village is an important milestone for Homes by Esh. It reflects the collaborative approach taken with Darlington Borough Council and our wider project partners.

“As we continue to develop our roots in Darlington, our focus is on bringing forward high‑quality, design‑led homes that respond to local character while contributing positively to the long‑term vision for Burtree as a new, sustainable community.”
