North East industrial market: Demand to remain robust

The city is turning its attention to the seaside towns of Roker and Seaburn, with plans to extend the Business Improvement District being discussed at the city council’s cabinet meeting on Thursday.

Plans have now been submitted by property developers iMpeC and Buccleuch Property for the Middlesbrough regen scheme, which includes more than 230 BTR homes and a 450-bed PBSA block.

With the closure of the National Glass Centre in 2026, the government is funding a £5m facility dedicated to the craft in Borough Road, Sunniside. 

As Bowmer + Kirkland starts construction on Pilgrim Place 1 and 2, Avison Young has secured a 170,000 sq ft pre-letting set over nine-storeys of the future office block. 

The £12m development in Chapel House is in partnership with Newcastle City Council and will be exclusively for the over-55s.

The £15m Housing Innovation and Construction Skills Academy has been officially declared watertight, with fit-out works now able to commence.
