Work starts on £27m Bishop Auckland leisure centre

Alliance Leisure is delivering the scheme, alongside contractor Morgan Sindall, GT3 Architects, Axiom, and DPP.

The project will be the first new-build as part of the County Durham-wide Leisure Transformation Programme, and will replace Woodhouse Leisure Complex.

Partly funded by £2.5m from Sports England, the contract was awarded to Morgan Sindall via the UK Leisure Framework.

Facilities will include a 25 metre pool, a 20 metre teaching pool, a large gym, studios, a move-hub for people who need support to improve mobility, a playground, a library, and a community garden.

A soft play centre and café will be installed next to the library, creating a hub for families.
