Gleeson go-ahead for Leadgate

The developer will build 97 homes in the village near Consett in County Durham, following a unanimous decision from the council.

The mix of two- to four-bedroom homes will be located on land west of Pont Road, and will have 10 properties priced at a discounted market sale and five available for affordable rent.

A statement from Gleeson Homes read: “The site provides a sustainable development opportunity and would contribute to the provision of a mix of housing size, types and affordability in Leadgate, particularly promoting family housing and appropriate dwellings which allow people to stay in their local community.

“The proposals aim to deliver quality new homes to local people in addition to providing much needed new housing in this location.

“We are conscious of affordability for a couple who are on the national living wage when setting all open market values, ensuring that a couple can afford to purchase a property on all of our developments.

“The site lies on the edge of a residential area in close proximity to services and facilities including access to sustainable travel options such as bus services and footpath links.

“There is ready access to local amenities, schools and employment sites, making the development socially sustainable.”
