Bellway Homes can commence building 428 homes on 56 acres off Staindrop Road in County Durham, as phase one of Gladman’s wider 120-acre neighbourhood.
Of the 428 proposed homes, 128 would be affordable, and the housing mix would range from two- to five-bedrooms.
The wider neighbourhood, which was brought forward by Gladman and Taylor Wimpey last year, is a 190-acre combined masterplan that includes outline consent for 535 Taylor Wimpey homes on 70 acres north of Coniscliffe Road, on the western edge of Darlington, and up to 985 Gladman homes to the north of this site.
The two sites would be joined by a central spine road and a GP surgery, a primary school with a nursery, sports pitches, and a convenience store will also be constructed.
Bellway’s plans sit within Gladman’s part of the scheme.
Head of Land for Bellway Durham, Mark Gabriele, commented: “Baydale Village is the largest project we have yet undertaken at Bellway Durham, so gaining reserved matters approval for phase one is a landmark moment for us.
“The site was allocated for housing in the Darlington Local Plan, and our development will provide exactly what this area needs in terms of high-quality homes that people will enjoy living in, in the years ahead.”
