NBS takes 14,000 sq ft at 1 Trinity Gardens in Newcastle

The digital platform for the construction industry has relocated from the Old Post Office on St Nicholas Street after 25 years, in a bid to increase its sustainability credentials and attract future talent.

The move will save the company 60 tonnes of carbon per year, as NBS will source 100% renewable electricity for the new building, eliminating direct fossil-fuel emissions from heating entirely.

Located on the Quayside, the office facilities include an on-site gym and immediate access to riverside walks and outdoor spaces.

Parker Knight represented Hubexo, owner of NBS, and Hay & Kilner provided legal advice.

The office will house more than 250 NBS employees across its product & technology, technical content & technical delivery, corporate services, finance & IT, sales, marketing & customer service teams, spanning operations across the UK, Nordics, Australia, USA, and Canada.

NBS offers an integrated global platform for the design, supply, and construction chain in the built environment and has had a presence in Newcastle for 50 years.

Jo Keit, president of UK and Ireland, Hubexo, said: “One of our core missions is to help the industry build sustainably, and our move to a greener, more energy-efficient Newcastle home will hopefully encourage others in the industry to make similar carbon-reducing commitments.

“Investing in our hubs is about investing in our people today, but also the people we want to attract tomorrow.

“These spaces are designed to support connection, collaboration and the culture we’re building together, and we’re delighted to see colleagues enjoying the new facility.”

Dr Lee Jones, head of sustainability, Hubexo, said: “After more than a quarter of a century at the historic Old Post Office, we’re making a move that aligns with our sustainability commitments.

“The building’s gas heating system produced approximately 80 tonnes of CO₂ annually, incompatible with our net zero by 2045 ambition.”
