Resi plans unveiled for Gateshead’s Old Town Hall

Capital&Centric is working with the council to turn the grade two-listed building and surrounding car parks into homes and retail space.

The only surviving Victorian town hall in Tyne & Wear, the building used to be the council headquarters until it relocated to the civic centre in 1987.

Now, the Manchester-based developer has released a sketch showing plans to repurpose the building into homes, surrounded by new builds, cafés, bars, restaurants, and green spaces.

The project marks C&C’s first foray into the North East, following its commitment to the council earlier this year.

John Moffat, joint managing director at Capital&Centric, said: “Our plans will provide a new lease of life for this local landmark, repurposing it into a new neighbourhood.

“Set to become a thriving town-centre community, this will be a truly fitting reboot for a building that once served the people of Gateshead for years.”
