The retailer has taken almost 34,000 sq ft at Newcastle’s shopping and leisure destination, set to open on 15 July.

The planned closure of the National Glass Centre next year has once again come under scrutiny, following a motion passed by the council that will see Sunderland University questioned over its estimated repair costs and finances. 

The convenience store is the first tenant secured for the street at Hanzard Drive, which will have nine retail units and sit in the middle of the 1,000-home estate in Teesside. 

The 2,000-capacity St James’ Park fanzone and leisure destination opened last year with permission to operate until 2026, but following the popularity of the venue this has been extended. 

For the first time in the shopping destination’s 22-year history, it is 100% let – with CafeBar Eighteen38 taking the final unit.

It marks the brand’s first UK store acquisition of 2025, and its second location in the North East. 

The Newcastle Quayside asset has been acquired by French SCPI fund Iroko Zen, in an off-market deal brokered by Knight Frank. 

With a Combined Authority and a Metro Mayor, plus multi-million pound regeneration projects already underway, it’s an exciting time to be in the area. North East Emerging Development Hotspots mapped out the region’s investment hotspots and put its audience ahead of the curve.

The project included the restoration of grade two-listed buildings alongside a five-storey extension, on behalf of Northumberland Estates.
