Boutique hotel proposed for Middlesbrough’s Acklam Hall
The town’s only grade one-listed building is looking to build a 59-bed venue on land off Hall Drive, with the project team targeting a planning submission in September and construction potentially starting in late 2027.
Pyramid Architectural Design and its director Ben Wears have led the design of the scheme, which is intended to have its own identity separate from the historic hall.
The proposals include a Victorian-style garden, with the hotel designed using glass and local steel.
Landowner James Watson said discussions were already under way with national hotel brands and potential investors.
The proposed development follows the rejection of an earlier 55-bedroom hotel and spa scheme two years ago, after councillors raised concerns that it was not in keeping with the historic building.
Historic England also objected to the previous proposals, which were criticised for appearing to create an “annexe” to Acklam Hall.
The new scheme is being presented as a separate development.
Middlesbrough Mayor Chris Cooke has said Acklam Hall is a “unique venue in our town” and expressed his hope that it would have a successful future.
