Silverstone wins £700,000 Hitachi Construction Machinery contract
The surveying firm will refurbish a number of the company’s industrial properties at its 12-acre Monkton Park headquarters in Hebburn.
Silverstone, which is project manager and contract administrator, will work alongside JCP Consulting Engineers and has appointed Robertson as the main contractor following a competitive tender process.
The project has recently started on site and will take three months to complete.
Works for HCMUK will include upgrades at the 70,000 sq ft Unit 5, which is used to modify excavators for the UK and Irish construction equipment market, to increase capacity, efficiency, and energy performance, including the replacement of heating and cooling systems, and the installation of new fire safety and intruder alarm systems.
This will bring Silverstone’s pipeline of development projects delivered for HCMUK to £3m since 2022, including being project manager on the refurbishment of a warehouse at the site, which involved upgrading two storeys of office space, extensive mechanical and engineering works, roof repairs, installation of a new dock leveller, building a new yard and gatehouse facility, enabling works for gantry cranes, and a 6,500 sq ft steel frame, two-storey extension.
Dave Roberts, chief executive at HCMUK said: “These critical upgrades to our UK headquarters will allow us to create a workspace for a large number of our valued employees that is fit-for-purpose. Having previously worked with Silverstone on an office expansion project and the establishment of an additional machine assembly plant, it was a logical step to partner with them again on this major M&E project that will deliver class leading facilities here in Hebburn.”
Director at Silverstone Building Consultancy, Phil Bone, said: “The building works cannot affect Hitachi’s live, onsite manufacturing activity so we are carefully planning every stage to meet that expectancy.
“The plans have seen quite a lot of adaptation since conception which is the nature of such a fast-moving industry and we’re more than happy to be flexible and adapt to the client’s changing requirements.”
