By the River founder gets consent for Byker resi
Comprising 57 flats, the six-storey Lime Street scheme is the brainchild of Rob Cameron, one of the founders of the popular brewery.
Newcastle City Council approved the By the River founder’s proposals at a meeting on Friday morning in line with officer recommendations. It was the second time a plan for the Byker site’s redevelopment has gone before members.
In 2023, Cameron’s Poperty@Lime Street had an application for the same site refused on the grounds of inadequate light for residents, and potential harm to the surrounding Ouseburn conservation area. A subsequent appeal was dismissed.
The 38,000 sq ft revised scheme addresses the light concerns by making three apartments at the southern end of the development dual-aspect.
Overall, there are 12 one-bed flats, 40 with two bedrooms – including three duplexes – and five with three bedrooms. The ground floor will feature four commercial units.
Cameron is being supported by Newcastle-based Floc Studio, which is acting as agent on the project, Xsite Architecture, Biodiverse Consulting, and Geo Environmental Engineering.
