Keepmoat gets go-ahead for Newcastle development
Keepmoat Homes has had plans approved for a housing estate with 45 bungalows on the site of a demolished school.
The estate will be made up of 25 bungalows and 20 dormer bungalows.
Working with architects IDPartnership, the housing mix is for 40 two-bed and five three-bed bungalows, designed to cater to people over the age of 55. Eight of the homes will be affordable (17.7% of the development).
Councillors from Newcastle City Council unanimously approved the plans for the development of the site, 20 years after the demolition of Parkway School in Chapel Park. The site is located to the north of Hillhead Parkway and to the west of Hillhead Road
The proposed layout incorporates 27,340 sq ft of open space and an additional £47,240 has been allocated for off site parks and recreation.
Planning permission was granted subject to the following conditions:
- training and employment plan
- SuDS (£10,000 monitoring fee)
- on-site biodiversity net gain
- £7,365 for allotments
- £12,300 for amenity green space
- £47,240 for parks and recreation
- £157,624 for replacement sports pitch contribution
- associated monitoring costs arising from the planning obligations.
In 2018, permission was granted to Tolent Living for the development of 61 affordable homes for older people on the site, prior to Tolent going into administration in 2023.
