Middlesbrough nears CEO appointment
The council will discuss the candidates vying to succeed interim Clive Heaphy as chief executive at a specially convened meeting next week.
Middlesbrough Council will hold a chief officer appointments committee meeting on Wednesday 13 November to consider the candidates for the position.
A full-time appointment would bring to a close a long period under interim chief executive Clive Heaphy.
The council was asked in January to sign off an extension to Heaphy’s contract to keep him in place until March 2025, his initial appointment for 12 months having started in March 2023.
The chief executive role was then advertised from September.
Chief executives have been on the move throughout the North of England over the course of 2024. Ex-Bradford and Liverpool boss Tony Reeves took over at Wakefield in April, while in May, Dale Owens took over the senior job at Gateshead Council, succeeding Sheena Ramsey.
Michael Cullen stepped up at Stockport in June, while Steve Rumbelow announced his impending departure from Rochdale Council a month ago.
There have also been recent changes in two of the biggest jobs in regional civic leadership, with Tom Riordan departing Leeds for a central government role, to be replaced by Ed Whiting.
Last month, meanwhile, it was confirmed that Tom Stannard will make the short journey from Salford to take over from Joanne Roney at Manchester City Council.
